DSS should go after Gov Bala Mohammed for defending herdsmen carrying AK-47 – HURIWA
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called on the Department of State Services, DSS, to go after Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed over his comment endorsing herdsmen to carry AK-47.
Mohammed had said herdsmen should be allowed to carry AK-47 because they need to protect themselves in the forests.
However, the rights group said Mohammed’s immunity does not authorise him to defend alleged terrorists.
HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko made the call in a statement he issued on Saturday.
According to HURIWA: “The DSS and the Nigerian Police Force must go after the Bauchi state governor because section 302 which gives him immunity did not authorise him to openly back terrorists known as armed Fulani herdsmen.
“We are living witnesses to the constant harassment of the economist and erstwhile Deputy Governor of Central bank of Nigeria Dr. Mailafiya Obadiah by the DSS and Police over his disclosure that a state governor in the North is a terror masterminds but the Bauchi state governor Bala Mohammed supported the terror actions of armed Fulani herdsmen but the security forces have gone deaf and dumb.”
