“Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;” Jer 51:20.
Being God’s battle axe means you are His weapon of warfare.
- He intends to fight battles through you. Consider David’s battle with Goliath. It was God Himself that fought with Goliath by making use of David as His battle axe.
- A battle axe is a weapon in the hands of the warrior that can bring down the enemy. It has capacity to cut down, root up and break into pieces the strong holds of the enemy.
- Ex 7:1; Whatever God would have done to Pharaoh, He will do it through Moses. Pharaoh did not see God, but he saw God’s power working through Moses.
- The Lord wants to destroy many Pharaohs today, and He looks for the Moses that will serve as His instrument of battle, may He found you as one in Jesus name.
- The world is a battle-field, and a place of darkness. A lot of satanic activities are going on, and they are all out to fight the kingdom of God, and to prevent the saints from getting there.
- Many Christians have died untimely due to attacks from the powers of darkness and some are in hell because they refused to be the battle-axe of God. I pray that every hold of Satan and his kingdom over your life shall be broken in Jesus name.
Do you know that the Bible points out that you and God have a common enemy – Satan! God wants to use you to destroy all satanic activities in the family, business circles, the Church and around the world.
The battle is the Lord’s, that’s a common saying among Christians today. And it is true. But that does not imply that we are immune to spiritual attacks. No Christian has outgrown spiritual attacks.
Right from when the enemy was thrown out of Heaven to the earth, the inhabitants of the world (especially Christians) have come under intense attacks from him.
The enemy knows that his time is short and is working extra-time; making sure to use every available weapon in his arsenal against the Church.
God needs vessels through which He’ll squash the works of the enemy. The battle is the Lord’s but He needs vessels on earth through which He’ll dismantle the works of darkness and establish His kingdom. We are sent on earth to be those vessels.
The Bible never told us that because the battle is the Lord’s, that we are to live without prayer and care less about the enemy’s activities against the Church, then God will fight for us.
The enemy never rests. Therefore we should not go to sleep assuming nothing will happen while the enemy goes to work.
1 Peter 5:8 KJV Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
WHY WE MUST BECOME GOD’S BATTLE AXE
As God’s ambassadors, right now we’re not here on earth to rest. We’re here to work. The watchman should not be sleeping when he is supposed to be watching and praying. It is while men sleep that the enemy does his worst.
Matthew 13:25 KJV But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
The enemy knows that God is raising a dreadful end time army and that they’re going to crack down on his works. That is why he is also intensifying spiritual attacks (especially) against these breed of Christians.
“Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; [21] And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; [22] With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; [23] I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.
Jeremiah 51:20-23
When you begin to see yourself as a tool of God, then you would have succeeded in moving away from me-consciousness to God-consciousness. The first things that Paul asked the resurrected Jesus (Acts 22:7-10) were (a) who are you Lord? And (b) what would you have me do? Those two questions must constantly resound on your journey with God as you pursue to know who he is, to be constantly refreshed in the revelation of himself to you and to have a more accurate understanding on your usefulness to him.
The fact that Jesus is alive in you should tell you that there are certain ways he wants to flow through you to others. Don’t have the mind-set of a lake but a river, that is, you are channel of the grace of God to others (1Peter 4:10-11), in whatever forms that God has designed you to be.
Everyone needs to be affirmed: that is what is coming across in the focus verse, where God is establishing the destiny of a group of people as being His battle axe, in the cutting edge of God’s operations. Understanding this is about you helps you to have a sense of usefulness in the kingdom of God.
“It will be in vain for me to stock my library, or organise societies, or project schemes, if I neglect the culture of myself; for books, and agencies, and systems, are only remotely the instruments of my holy calling; my own spirit, soul, and body, are my nearest machinery for sacred service; my spiritual faculties, and my inner life, are my battle axe and weapons of war.
You are very important in the divine scheme of things. Get that into your psyche. The ultimate find is to find your place in the body of Christ and pursue increasing the expression in it.
Never worry about what to do to work for God, only see yourself as a vessel of honour, see yourself as a reflection of the light of Christ as a moon having no light of your own. The moon would really be foolish to worry about producing light. When you see the light from the sun, the sun is not seen, and it seems to the naive that the moon produced luminosity on its own. Not true; it only reflects the light of the Sun.
Jesus is the sun of righteousness (Malachi 4:2), the unfailing source of divine energy; the unlimited source of blessing. That you are his battle axe sells the idea that you don’t direct yourself. Stop this over-involvement with your limitations that has you to become handicapped.
Jesus Christ says that as his father sent him so he is sending us (John 20:21). See yourself in that light, just as he is the light, your light, and the light that you are called to reflect. You are the extension of his ministry; you bear his impact on this earth.
Through the focus verse, God is saying you are important to him; you are part of his agenda on earth. He has chosen you to be his battle axe.
Whether it is a battle we face in our everyday lives, at home, work, business, or whatever it is, God says we are His battle axe, and can overcome every challenge or opposition the devil throws at us. The Bible is replete with many ‘battle-axes’ that God used to overcome kings, and kingdoms. For us today, the assurance is that if God has called us His ‘battle-axe’, then that is what we are. Therefore, we have no reason to fear even if the devil roars at us as an angry lion, just like Goliath and the Philistines did with the children of Israel, until David, God’s battle-axe, rose up to the challenge, and confronted him head-on (1 Samuel 17). Just like little David overcame the mighty giant, with 5 pebbles, we too, as God’s battle axes can overcome, because ‘greater is He that is in us, than the devil that is in the world’ (1 John 4: 4).
DOWN UPON BOTH KNEES, HANDS UP, AND EYES UP TO HEAVEN!
It is called the posture of prayer. When Christ’s church has been beaten every way else, it has at last taken to its knees, and then the whole army of the enemy has fled before us, for on its knees Christ’s church is more than conqueror. The praying legion is a legion of heroes. He who understands this posture has learned the first part of the heavenly drill.
You must overcome every enemy, but this weapon is all you need! If you, my Hearer, would overcome sin and conquer unbelief, take such a word as this, “Look unto Me, and be you saved, all the ends of the earth.” And as you look you shall be saved—and doubt shall die—and sin be slain! God grant you His Spirit’s aid, for Christ’s sake! Amen.
