“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 2
Colossians 2:10

The head is the most important part of the body; hence, kings and priests were anointed on their heads and Christ is referred to as the Head of the Church (Ephesian 4:15). Also, more often than not, symbols of power, authority and honor are displayed on the head. The body is able to operate efficiently because the head is capable of interpreting data received from the body, and also because the head is able to send out appropriate signals to the various parts of the body. The capacity of the head to intelligently interpret and direct the activities of the whole body makes the existence of the body completely dependent on the head. For this reason, we as the Body of Christ are totally dependent on Him, who is our Head. The Lord has also sent us as His representatives to be head over every situation around us. Henceforth, you shall be the head and the most important personality within sphere of influence in Jesus’ Name.

To be the head indeed is not a theoretical concept but a practical reality that must be manifested. A person who is really the head must effectively provide leadership through the coordination of all the abilities at his or her disposal. From a physical point of view; the eyes are there to provide vision, the ears to collect information through sound, the nose for smelling, the tongue for taste and the mouth for verbal communication. The brain has the responsibility of processing the various data gathered by these different parts of the head, either for immediate use or for future application, as the case may be. If any of these organs that form part of the head is impaired, the head will not be able to effectively perform its leadership role in the body. For you to be head indeed, every ability that you need in order to provide leadership, be it spiritual, physical or resource-wise, must not be impaired.

“And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
Deuteronomy 28:13

God has made all of
us some wonderful promises, but often we miss out on seeing them come to pass because of our unwillingness to do our part. When we quote biblical promises, we often miss the portion of the promise requiring us to do something. In Deuteronomy, God pronounces a simple theme determining the destiny of the Israelites—obedience or disobedience. If they obeyed God, God would bless them. If they disobeyed God, God would curse them. Being obedient is a difficult thing for many of us to do. Children find it difficult to obey their parents. Some learn the benefits easily, and others must learn the hard way. Some employees do not want to obey their superiors and believe that they should be in charge. They disregard the orders of their supervisors, and end up losing good jobs.

All of us have disobeyed God. Our will often struggles with God’s will for our lives. This is why we need God’s grace. God’s grace is revealed in the wonderful blessing in store for those who choose to obey. For example in Deuteronomy 28:13, God made this promise to the Israelites, and it still holds true for us today: “And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” We need to know from this prophetic word that we are the head, and not the tail. We are not the backsides of anything; we are God’s people, we are the head. We are thinkers, leaders, movers and shakers, and social changers. However, we cannot walk in who we are and how God has made us if we do not obey his commandments over our lives.

Many of us are living like the ‘tail.’ We permit others to think for us; we have put our destinies in the hands of other people; and we have settled for mediocrity. Rather than making change, we conform to the world. Tails live in fear. Tails obey their flesh. Tails are all talk and no action. Tails disrespect authority. Tails want their way or no way at all. Just because someone is in a leadership position or considers him/herself the ‘head’ of something, it does not mean that they are not a ‘tail.’ The head is the person who submits to the will of God and lives life serving the Lord. You are the head, and not the tail.

We must observe the commands of God. We must live right. We must live holy lives. This means loving our neighbors, forgiving our enemies, obeying our parents and being faithful to our spouses and families. Observing God’s commands also requires us to have faith and act upon that faith. We cannot observe these commandments with the help of the Holy Spirit. When we are willing to listen to the voice of God, God will give us the strength to resist temptation and do his divine will. When we act in this way, our obedience will reveal the truth about you and me—we are the head, not the tail.

I therefore, pray that God will perfect everything about you, so that you will provide excellent leadership as the head that He the Lord had made you to be, in the Name of Jesus. Among other things, three factors are necessary for a head to perform effectively: eyes that see, ears that hear and a mouth that speaks. Physical eyes are required to view things in general, while spiritual eyes are necessary for divine revelation to see beyond the physical realm. Ears that function properly listen to people and also hear from God. Picking up divine communication is absolutely necessary for anyone who will be the head. Also, a functional mouth is most necessary for communicating with fellow men and for making declaration in the Name of Jesus. I pray for you that you will receive clear vision, your ears will hear the sound from heaven, your mouth will make irreversible decrees, you shall be an effective head in the mighty Name of Jesus.

Prayer Point:

Father, please touch my head and bless me with everything I need to be a successful leader in Jesus’ Name.
