But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods,(A) is to be put to death.”

If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22

Proverbs 12:22: “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight”.

The problems of mankind all began with a lie. The serpent told Eve that she would not die if she ate from the tree in the midst of the garden. That whopper led to sin, death, pain, suffering and a separation from God that could only be bridged by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Is it any wonder that lying is listed in Proverbs as one of the six things that God hates?

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Honesty is of utmost importance in human relations. Every social activity, every human experience requiring people to act in concert, is impeded when people aren’t honest with one another. The honesty that I am talking about is not just informing an umpire that you did or did not tag a base runner out; it is not just truth-telling; it is truth-living.

be honest is to be real, genuine, authentic, and bona fide. To be dishonest is to be partly feigned, forged, fake, or fictitious. Honesty expresses a disposition to live in the light. Dishonesty seeks shade, cover, or concealment. It is a disposition to live partly in the dark.

In a dramatic contrast, Satan is identified as “the father of lies” (John 8:44 NLT). It’s as clear as day: God is truth, and Satan is the father of lies. Therefore when we lie, we are behaving more like the children of the devil than the children of God.

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (2 Pet. 2:1–3)

Most people think cursing is using dirty language. In the Bible, to “abuse the Name of God by cursing” is to speak blasphemy against God. Blasphemy, at its root, is to speak sacrilegiously against God, to treat him inappropriately or falsely. SHALOM!
