“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
— Moses, Exodus 14:14
Summary:
Explains why it is necessary for a believer to allow the Lord to take control of his/her personal battles; noting that this is the only way one can be assured of victory.
Knowing how to obtain victory in battle is of great importance to every Christian. There is no gainsaying the fact that we are constantly engaged in warfare.
The good news is that every child of God has access to a warrior who has never lost before. The bible states that Jehovah is a man of war.
“The lord shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace”
The problem however, is that many of us are not patient enough to allow the Lord to fight on our behalf. We feel the Lord is too slow in reacting and would rather fight ourselves.
“For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.”
Isaiah 63:4
‘Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
Romans 12:19
From the preceding verses not only do we learn that revenge is of the Lord, it is made clear that he has appointed a day to execute such judgment on our behalf.
“Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again.”
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.”
Exodus 14:13-14
In these verses, Moses encourages the Israelites to be brave escaping for freedom from their multi-generational bondage in Egypt. In the previous verse he tells them “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.”
Moses is reminding the Israelites, and us today, that God is fighting for us. So we can be at peace. One of the most searched versions of this verse is: “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still” (NIV). Other versions use the verbs be ‘clam’, ‘silent’ and ‘quiet’. Whatever the translation, the point is that there is no need to be afraid. God is in control. We only need to have faith in God, trusting that He will fight for us to the very end. Then we may have the
inner peace necessary to live well in an ever-changing world.
WE HAVE TO BELIEVE AND TRUST GOD.
BELIEVE GOD, and HOLD your peace!! In life, its so easy to hold onto things that temporarily satisfy our fears but never help us move forward with courage. Sometimes, instead of holding onto our PEACE and KNOWING that GOD will fight for us, we tend to hold onto other things such as men, women, boys girls,friendships,food,churches,jobs,drugs,sex,etc.. we HAVE to hold onto our PEACE. HOLD it!
In scripture, when the Israelites were delivered from Pharaoh’s captivity, they set out toward the Promised Land. Shortly after they left Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army chasing after them. The Israelites ended up at a dead end at the Red Sea. They had nowhere to go. It looked like they would certainly be recaptured or maybe even killed. They began to panic. Scripture says they were terrified and said, “Moses, why did you bring us out here in the desert to die?”
Moses knew if they would have stayed upset, fearful and worried, that would have stopped God from working. He said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, the Lord will fight for you if you hold your peace and remain at rest.” Notice there was a condition. God will fight your battles if you’ll stay at rest. If you’ll quit worrying about the medical report, if you’ll quit being upset over the contract you didn’t get, if you’ll quit being stressed by those people who are talking about you. If you’ll remain at rest, God will fight your battles.
I’m asking you today to identify the peace stealers in your life. What’s causing you to be stressed? Are you carrying a load that you’re not supposed to carry? Are you allowing someone to dump their burdens on you, trying to be the savior? Turn that over to God. Don’t let them pull you out of rest. Are you allowing traffic, people or a grouchy boss to upset you? They may not change, but you can change.
Life is too short to let peace stealers determine our destiny. If you’ll make this decision with me that you’re going to live at rest, you’ll not only enjoy your life more, but I believe and declare God will do for you what He did for the Israelites. He’ll part Red Seas; He’ll restore your health, and He’ll bring vindication, promotion and the fullness of your destiny. He’ll fight your battles if you’ll remain at rest!
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
(Exodus 14:14 NIV)
We Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for the battles in life is not ours but GOD’s, therefore we give our battles to You and we stand still and get our salvation from You.
To me “You hold your peace!” is different than being still or silent. I see how they’re similar, but it’s not like Moses is telling the people, “You guys just go sit over there and do nothing while God handles this. Don’t worry, you don’t have any real responsibility here.” Instead, Moses gives them a command related to what their role is in the midst of the chaos: “You hold your peace!” It even has an exclamation point as if Moses is imploring them to obey! It is critical for them to comply and do their part. They are to be active participants, not passive. Moses is saying the Lord will do this (battle for you), but here is your role: Hold your peace!
It is so easy to get swept up in the anxious, panic, especially with all the news and internet articles. I admit it’s not easy for me! But, as believers we must hold onto our peace! I’m not saying we shouldn’t be wise, or that all of those things are wrong or evil … but I do know this: We should have no fear!!! As believers we must hold onto the fact that the Creator of the universe is still in control, even in the midst of uncertainty and chaos. In fact, it’s especially critical that we trust God in the midst of so much uncertainty! This is a moment for us to show that we’re different, and our faith is more than surface-level. That we don’t just trust God for the answers, but cling to Him because He is The Answer!
“Our response in the wake of danger or uncertainty isn’t to ignore pain, but to draw people to God’s peace.”
As believers, we have a specific role in this season. It’s similar to Moses in Exodus 14. It’s being the voice of someone calming the people around them, reminding them of God’s faithfulness, and then showing them what it looks like to hold onto God’s peace in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. It’s not about pretending we have a plan or we know how all of this is going to shake out. We don’t – but God does! He is still on the throne with His feet up! None of this has taken Him by surprise.
Finally, I’d encourage you all to watch for what God is doing around you. I’ve already seen multiple ways that God is moving, uniting our people, and drawing people closer to Him. Often crisis can be the thing that draws people to the end of themselves, and they meet God face-to-face. So, we pray for that! We pray for the Spirit to break out across our land, and for a massive, global revival to emerge from whatever crisis we may be facing right now. We know the Lord is at work, and we trust Him – even when we can’t see it or don’t understand it. We choose today to put our hope and faith in Him! We choose today to carry His PEACE. We choose to lift our eyes and watch expectantly to see Him move, because we know He will!
