Trump campaign sues to stop vote count in Michigan.

This is about the worst US election in history.

The campaign in a statement said, “We have filed suit today in the Michigan Court of Claims to halt counting until meaningful access has been granted. We also demand to review those ballots which were opened and counted while we did not have meaningful access.”

Democratic nominee Joe Biden has a slight edge over incumbent Republican Donald Trump with 227 to 213 electoral votes. That leaves 98 electoral votes to be allocated, and possible paths to victory for both candidates. The winner needs to secure 270 votes.

Scattered protests took place from Washington, DC to Washington state in the hours after polls closed, but there were no signs of widespread unrest or violence linked to the US election. The outcome of the hard-fought contest for the presidency remained undecided Wednesday, stirring worries that prolonged uncertainty could yet spark conflict. But overnight demonstrations in cities including Seattle, Washington and New York remained largely peaceful.

Trump alleges ‘surprise ballot dumps’ in states where he was leading

US President Donald Trump alleged on Wednesday that there had been “surprise ballot dumps” in states where he had been leading Democrat Joe Biden in the race for the White House. “Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled,” Trump tweeted. “Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted.” Trump did not offer any evidence for his allegation of “ballot dumps” and there have been no reports of any irregularities.

With every state having its own rules and process of voting and counting of ballots, leads see-sawed in several battleground states giving no clear picture of the winner even as President Trump claimed he had won before all votes were tabulated. The surge in mail-in voting caused by the pandemic compounded an already flawed system that is known for voter suppression, particularly of minorities.
