The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has responded to a new development about calling off of the ongoing strike and stated that there is no agreement yet to call off the strike.
The new development about the suspension of strike by ASUU was denied by the ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi stating that he does not know anything about calling off the strike.
”I am not aware of that. All I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members. But I don’t know about suspension of the strike, “Prof. Ogunyemi said when asked about the new development.
Earlier before the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige stepped out to say that the government has reached an agreement with ASUU after a meeting between the two parties on Friday, November 27, 2020, at Abuja.
Ngige said that they had reached an agreement with ASUU to pay salaries between February and June. The minister said that the government reached an agreement to pay over N50 million to ASUU.
It is yet to be clear if there was a concrete agreement between the federal government and the academic staff Union of universities.
