Why was the Apostle Paul so convinced that nothing could separate him from the love of God? Journey together with the Apostle Paul and receive a greater revelation of God’s love for you. Be blessed, empowered and transformed in Jesus name!

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:35-39

“Christ’s love is not a memory. It is a moment-by-moment action of the living Son of God.”

The reason Paul can say that nothing will separate us from the love of Christ is because Christ is alive and is still loving us now. He is at the right hand of God and is therefore ruling for us. And he is interceding for us, which means he is seeing to it that his finished work of redemption does in fact save us hour by hour and bring us safe to eternal joy. His love is not a memory. It is a moment-by-moment action of the omnipotent, living Son of God, to bring us to everlasting joy.

This love of Christ is effective in protecting us from separation, and therefore is not a universal love for all, but a particular love for his people — those who, according to Romans 8:28, love God and are called according to his purpose.

The call of Christ does not mean…
“Have you ever heard the gospel?” or “Have you ever heard an invitation calling you to repent and believe?” Verse 30 makes plain what the call is we are talking about here: “[Those] whom [God] predestined, these he also called; and whom he called, these he also justified; and whom he justified, these he also glorified.” All those who are called are justified. So this calling from God is not a mere invitation, but a powerful and effective summons that woke you up from the slumber of ignorance and rebellion, so that you saw Jesus and gladly submitted to him.

The greatest lesson a Christian can learn is that nothing nor anyone can ever separate him from the love of Christ.

I have a missionary friend who had been in prison frequently. He was flogged severely, exposed to death again and again for the cause of Christ. He had been unmercifully beaten with a whip five times. Three times he had been beaten with rods, stoned once, shipwrecked three times and spent a night and day in the open sea before getting to shore. He had been is danger of swollen rivers, bandits along roads, in danger of both Jewish and non-Jewish government leaders, and traveled in dangerous areas in foreign countries. One day he said, “I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food. I have been cold and naked” (2 Cor. 11:23-29).

That amazing Christian also wrote, “Who shall separated us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecutions, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans 8: 35) In effect he says, “None of the above or all of them together can separate us from the love of Christ.”

The love of Christ is eternal and unchanging. It meets us right where we are and takes us out of our darkness into light, from death to life.

God loves us with an intimate love in which nothing, nothing, nothing can ever separate us.

When we receive Jesus we have been rescued from the kingdom of death, and by the blood of Jesus Christ, been bought into the kingdom of life. When we receive Jesus we have been given the power and authority by the King of the kingdom to tear down strongholds over our minds and the lies of the evil one with God’s Truth. When we receive Jesus we have been given the the power and authority by the King of the kingdom to be free from the bondage of selfish desires and surrender all to Him.
