Mathew 28:18

My aim in this message is, first, that you would be filled with a well-grounded amazement at the absolute authority and sovereignty of Jesus Christ over this world and over his unstoppable mission to gather his sheep from all the unreached peoples of the world, and, second, that many of you would hear the voice of God calling you irresistibly to leave your home and go to a place of greater need for the everlasting good of lost people and for the fame of Jesus Christ.

When we say ALL POWERS How much power do you suppose that is?
Look around at the vast universe, it speaks to us of the glory or the power of God.

Look at the star Arcturus, it is about 30 light years away from the earth. It is traveling through space at the rate of 70 miles per second, or 4,200 miles per minute which is 252,000 MPH. I am sure that God was just kidding when He said to Job, “How would you like to guide Arcturus.” It is about 30 times larger than the sun. Which is 1,250,000 times larger than our earth.

Betelgeuse is estimated to be between 300,000,000 and 400,000,000 miles in diameter. If you would place the sun in the middle of Betelgeuse, the earth could rotate around the Sun, and have a couple hundred million miles to spare.

When Jesus said, “All power is given unto Me,” that would include the power that brought the Universe into existence and thrust the stars into their orbits.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Colossians 1:16-17

The word translated consist we are told in Greek means also held together.

The mystery of the atom is what holds it together.
According to Coulombs law of electricity, like poles repel.
Seek to bring the positive poles of magnets together and you will note how they repel.

It has been suggested that if you have one gram of protons which is just 1/454th of a pound, at the north pole, and 8,000 miles away at the south pole another gram of protons, the repelling force at that distance would be so great that it would take 26 tons to hold the protons down.
The nucleus of an atom is made up of protons or positive charges that are tightly clustered together. According to Coulombs law of electricity they should be repelling each other. What holds them together?
We know that when we can upset the nucleus of the atom with slow moving neutrons we can release these protons, and the result is an atom bomb.
The amount of power that holds the atoms together has to be greater than the power released in the explosion of an atom bomb.

We are now beginning perhaps to understand just a little of what Jesus was saying when He said, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.”

That is power in the physical universe, but there is another dimension beyond the physical, and that is the spiritual. When Jesus declared “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.” He was referring to the spiritual as well as the physical.

In the Lord’s prayer we say, “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, amen.”

Jesus spoke of His power to forgive sins.
We read where He gave His disciples power against unclean spirits.

He has authority and power over all the powers of darkness. All of those forces that are opposed to your walk with Him.

What would you do if you had that kind of power?
Power is very difficult to handle. Very few people can do it.

There is a saying, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
To me the greatest strength is manifested in power that is held in check.

When they arrested Jesus and Peter drew his sword to defend Jesus, remember the words of Jesus. “Put away your sword, do you not know that I could call for 12 legions of angels to come to My defense?”

When Pilate said, to Him, “Do you not realize that I have the power to release you or to put you to death?” Jesus answered, “You have no power at all against Me except that which is given to you by My Father.”

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places],
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.”
Ephesians 1:17-21

His desire and prayer was that they might know just how much power was available to them.
I believe that it is the goal of Satan to keep you from knowing the power that God has made available to you.
God has committed Himself to your salvation, and all the power that it might take to accomplish that task is there and available to you.

I want to write for a few moments about that “All power is given unto me.” Nobody ever talked like that before or since in the history of the world. You never heard anybody who dared stand up or write down and say to the world, All power is given me in heaven and in earth. You see, Jesus spake as never man spake. You remember that, don’t you, and you remember that all others that came before Him had to say, Thus saith the Lord; but when He came He said, Verily, verily, I say unto you.” All other people who came before Him were sick, diseased. He came and said, I am the great physician. All others, when they came, were hungry. He said, I am the bread of life. All others were thirsty. He said, I am the water of life. Whosever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. All others were like sheep scattered without a shepherd. He said, I am the good shepherd. I lay down my life for the sheep. All others were sinners and lost—captive, bound, slaves, estranged from God, away on the mountains wild and bare, away from the tender shepherd’s care; lost in the midnight of their depravity and fallen state. He said, the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Keep your mind on that, will you, because this is in connection with “All power is given unto Me.” All of us were in darkness and in nature’s night. He said, I am the light of the world. Others said, We know He is coming; but He said to a woman, I that speak unto thee am He. Jesus spake as nobody else dared to speak—and now He is past the crucial moment. He went through the agony of Gethsemane’s Garden, endured the nails and the thorns, the rude rabble of the insulting multitude, the blasphemous crowd, the unregenerate multitude who cried, Away with Him, let Him be crucified. His blood be on us and on our children. He fathomed the depths of human sin. He scaled the heights of human depravity, He went out into the immensity of the worlds unknown and came back from it all. Death could not hold its prey. Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph o’er His foes—and He lives forever at the right hand of the Father.
“He ever lives above for me to intercede
His all revealing love, His precious blood to plead,
His blood atones for all our race
And sprinkles now the Throne of Grace.

“Whosoever cometh unto Me, I will in no wise cast out.”
Will you believe it?” All power is for you. All pardon is for you. All cleansing is for you. All victory is for you. God help you to believe it and if you are hearing at a distance will you kneel down when we pray in a moment, will you commit yourself, your wife, your children, your husband, your parents and loved ones to Him who loved you and will never cease to love you. God help you to trust Him and to trust Him now. May we realize that all power in heaven and in earth is in Jesus Christ and He has promised to be with you and with me,—He will be with the most frail, most unworthy, most unlikely, oldest, youngest—until we shall be presented faultless before the Father.
