ATTENDANT HEALTH RISKS IN DRINKING FAKE WINES AND CHAMPAGNES

*Shoppers have been warned of the ‘serious health risks’ associated with drinking counterfeit alcohol this festive season.*

Modern society seeks to consume foods that can treat and prevent disease, as well as increase longevity, and in this context stand out functional foods rich in antioxidant compounds with proven health benefits, as well as beverages that bring benefits to the health and are widely used by the population, such as wine. Wine has always been linked in some way to the history of man, either because it is a beverage with its own flavor and personality or because of the health benefits it brings. Studies carried out throughout the world show that wine, taken in a moderate amount, contributes to the health of the human organism, increasing the quality and the life time, being the polyphenols the main compounds present in the wine responsible for this contribution.

Having said that, it is also imperative to warn consumers about the dangers of drinking fake wines or champagnes that are all over the place today in our wine shops, nightclubs and supermarkets.

Although the taste of the products can seem right, the contents, strength and quality of such products can present serious, adverse effects on people’s health.
“Drinking these types of cheap products presents a huge risk to health, and in the worst-case scenario, counterfeit a can cause death,”

When you buy counterfeit alcohol you have no way of knowing what ingredients it contains and how strong it is, which could lead to serious illness and intoxication following one or two drinks, including but not limited to heartburns and hangover.

“Remember, these counterfeiters are most often linked with organised criminals, who are selling these dangerous products solely for an easy profit,”
