Breaking PEPT To Deliver Judgement September 6, Live Broadcast Allowed.
The much-awaited judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) is expected to be delivered on Wednesday, September 6th.
The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) had for the first time in the history of election announcements in Nigeria, at about 4:00 am on March 1, 2023, declared Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential poll
Obi and Atiku, in their respective cases, challenged the election on the basis of INEC’s failure to carry out electronic transmission of results from the polling units.
Another bone of contention was that Tinubu failed to secure a majority of votes cast in the election and 25 percent of votes cast in the federal capital territory (FCT) which they argued is a constitutional requirement for a candidate to win the election.
They also raised the issue of the fact that APC vice-presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, had a double nomination both as vice-president and as senatorial candidate for Borno Central.
The Court of Appeal Registrar Umar Bangari confirmed to media men on Monday, saying the proceedings will be open to live broadcast by interested television stations.
Judgement is also expected to be delivered by election tribunals in 25 states for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly election petitions.
