GOD’S WORD MAKE ME WISER THAN MY ENEMIES

IN THE DAYS OF HIS POWER SERIES.

TOPIC: HE MADE ME WISER THAN MY ENEMIES

COMPILED/EDITED BY:-
Rev. Innocent Chukwudi Peace-Udochukwu President Living Fountain Ministries Int’l LIFOM

“O how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.”
Psalm 119:97-98

God’s word makes us wise, it is the written source of wisdom God has given us. It will make you wiser than our enemies and wiser than the teachers of this world who have all their education behind them. Even age does not compete with the wisdom that comes from the word.

True wisdom goes beyond the pure accumulation of knowledge.
It seems that for both Job and Solomon, it is essential to GET wisdom. The wisdom we need cannot be acquired through science, philosophy, or the arts. True wisdom comes from God, by the process of revelation.
Knowledge has value, insight is good, but how to apply knowledge and insight to our lives in a life changing way: THAT is wisdom. Have a look around you, intelligent and educated people are not necessarily wise, and one merely has to look at the outcome of their lives to realize that knowledge does not guarantee wise decisions for life.

“Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. I have more insight than my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than my elders, for I obey your precepts.”
Psalm 119: 98-100

Lord make me wise!
“It is wisdom that “is supreme: therefore get wisdom. Though it cost you all you have, get understanding.” (Prov4:7-9)

If you want wisdom you have to go after it.
God gives some level of wisdom as a gift, but if you want more wisdom, you have to resolve to get it no matter what, or how difficult the path to wisdom becomes. This is not a once off acquisition; it is a day- to-day process of seeking wisdom in the word of God.
Why is wisdom so valuable? This is because *“she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than *gold.”* She offers “long life in her right hand” and “her left hand has riches and honor.” She guides on paths for life that are “pleasant” and “peaceful.” She offers a good life to “those who embrace her” and blesses those who “lay hold of her.”
(Prov 3:13-18)
In Psalm 119:101 the psalmist says that the Word has “kept my feet from every evil path.” Who would not want that for their lives? Lord make me wise.

There is only one thing that makes a man outstanding in life, and that’s the true knowledge of God; the psalmist said, through your commandments I have become wiser than my enemies, he went further to say to say; Your word are lamp unto my foot……

“O how I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, have made me wiser than my enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients because I keep Your precepts.”
Psalm 119:97-100.

BE WISER THAN YOUR ENEMIES!
Wisdom and knowledge are very different. Two different people could look at exactly the same sets of information and come to entirely different conclusions. The problem is this – our understanding varies according to both our perspective and our experience.
We may think we know what a familiar mountain looks like, but when we see that same mountain from a different direction it looks entirely different. It’s all a matter of what our perspective is. We may set out to climb the mountain a certain way, but discover it’s impossible to approach the summit from that direction. Whereas the man with experience of having climbed the mountain before, may set off in a direction that looks longer, but he will always get there first, because he has learned from experience.
The problem with life is that we can look at all the circumstances prevailing around us and be at a loss as to what is the right thing to do. Our knowledge is limited, our perspective is not perfect and we have limited experience. What we lack is the wisdom to know what to do. We may have the facts but we don’t have the understanding as to what to do with the facts!
But there is One who has all knowledge, and His perspective on events and circumstances is always just right. The Lord is not limited by the horizons of our own experience. On our journey through life we desperately need to be taking our instructions from Him. No wonder the Psalmist was able to say ‘your commands make me wiser than my enemies.’ When we hear and obey His voice we will always be on solid ground.
His wisdom is essential if we are going to make our way through this fallen world, in which the enemy of souls is constantly wanting to trip us up and take us off course. With His wisdom we will always be wiser than our enemies – as we acknowledge Him, He will make our paths straight and show us the way to go – every step of the way.

DAVID’S LOVE FOR THE WORD.
He has tried to express the inexpressible by saying, “O how I love Your Law!” He cannot tell the Lord how much he loves it. He had good reason for loving God’s Law—his love was a reasonable one. Love is sometimes blind, but in this case, David loved with his eyes open and loved with good reason. We ought to love all that God gives to us, and especially all His blessed teaching. If you do not love the Bible, you certainly do not love the God who gave it to us—but if you do love God, I am certain that no other book in all the world will be comparable, in your mind, to God’s own Book. Where God’s handwriting is most plainly to be seen, there God’s servants will at once turn their eyes. When God speaks, it is the delight of our ears to hear what He says.
Further, David loved the Law of the Lord, because being God’s Word, it was solid Truth In other books, there is some truth and some error. Apart from the Bible, the best book that was ever written in this world has mistakes in it. It is not possible for fallible men to write Infallible books. Somehow or other, we either say more than is true or less than is true.
The most skillful writer does not always keep along that hairline of truth which is more difficult to tread than a razor’s edge. But Scripture never errs. Here is the gold bullion without a single particle of alloy. Here is the Living Water leaping from the Rock and there is no defilement in it. David truly wrote, “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” Such is the Truth of God as we find it in Scripture. Now, a man of truth naturally loves the Book of Truth, and finding it to be so pure he cries, “O how I love Your Law!”
In addition to this being God’s Book and being, therefore pure, David no doubt loved it, because of the majestic goodness, the sublime Grace of its Revelation. What has the Bible taught us? Some terrible things, certainly, for it has revealed the wrath to come. But glorious things, too, for it has revealed the great Substitute who took our sins upon Himself and put that wrath away for all who trust Him. How wondrous is the Revelation of God in Christ Jesus! Well might the Prophets long for it and kings desire to see it. You have it in this blessed Book of God. You have far more of the Revelation than David had, for though he could see Christ in the types of the Old Testament, you can see Him much more clearly in the Gospels and Epistles of the New Testament. How much, then, you ought to love that Word which so plainly shows you the way of salvation through the atoning Sacrifice of God’s only-begotten and well-beloved Son! Clasp the Bible to your bosom, repentant, pardoned Sinner, and say to the Lord, “O how I love Your Law, for through this Word my chains have been broken and I have been set free forever!”
David also had good cause to love that Law of the Lord because it had been his comfort so often in the time of his sorrow. And many of us can say the same. How often have I, in times of frightful depression of spirit, reached down my Bible and within a few minutes have been able to leap for joy of soul and sing in the conscious realization of the comforting Presence of my God! Get but the one text suitable to the occasion, applied to the heart with power by the Holy Spirit, and it will not matter where you are—you will be sure to be glad. You might lie in a dungeon, as Paul and Silas did, scarred with the scourge, but you would sing as they did and make your fellow prisoners hear you. If you could but get the right text applied to your soul by the Holy Spirit, it would be precious to your soul in your times of deepest distress and would be like a star lighting up your darkest night!

“Oh, how I love Your law! I fix my mind on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies because they are always with me. I have more discernment than all my teachers because I study and meditate on Your testimonies. I comprehend more than those who are my elders because I have kept Your precepts. I have kept my feet from walking the paths of evil so that I may live according to Your word. I have not neglected Your lessons, for You, God, have been my teacher. Your words are sweet to my taste! Yes, they are sweeter than honey in my mouth! I gain understanding from Your instructions; that’s why I hate every deceitful path.”
Psalm 119:97-104

The choice has been made; the author has already made the decision to be obedient to the Laws of the Lord. He vows to never turn away from the ways of the Lord. He has refused to follow the pathways of the wicked. He agrees to follow the teachings of the Lord; those things that he has learned in mediation on the Word.
In fact, those Words are sweeter to him than honey. They have imparted godly wisdom and understanding. God’s guiding principles have imparted a deeper understanding to life in general. This is why the writer declares that he “hates” every wrong and deceitful path.

I want to be able to stand my ground and for that I need wisdom and we all need wisdom.

PRAYER
Father God, I confess that many times I have depended on my own knowledge and experience and have not listened to your voice or taken note of what you have said in your Word. Help me, Lord, to look up to you for the wisdom that passes all human understanding so that I will be wiser than my enemies and experience your blessing on my path. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
