IN THE DAYS OF HIS POWER SERIES.
TOPIC: HE WHO HE LIFTS UP, NO ONE CAN PUT DOWN!
Rev. Innocent Chukwudi Peace-Udochukwu President Living Fountain Ministries Int’l LIFOM
“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another.”
Promotions in any direction, to positions of credit, influence, or consideration, are the gift and the work of God.”
But God is the judge.
Even now he is actually judging. His seat is not vacant; his authority is not abdicated; the Lord reigneth evermore. He putteth down one, and setteth up another. Empires rise and fall at his bidding. A dungeon here, and there a throne, his will assigns. Assyria yields to Babylon, and Babylon to the Medes. Kings are but puppets in his hand; they serve his purpose when they rise and when they fall. God only is; all power belongs to him; all else is shadow, coming and going, unsubstantial, misty, dream like.
Every successful person, everyone exalted in some way, should humbly look to God with gratitude. It is God who puts down one, and exalts another. A humble mind and heart is the proper response, instead of boastful words, the celebration of one’s own strength, or resistance against God.
This is not to say that hard work, preparation, good habits, and other human aspects do not contribute to success – they clearly do. Yet even those things are gifts and abilities from God and should be regarded with humility and gratitude toward Him.
“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Amen!
Because God is the Judge and so this is another reason why fools should not deal foolishly, nor wicked men lift up the horn, and speak with a stiff neck, because there is a Judge to whom they are accountable for their words and actions; and this Judge is God omniscient, knows all persons and things, searches the heart and tries the reins, will bring every secret thing into judgment, bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the heart; omnipotent, able to do all things, raise the dead, call to judgment, bring all before him, pass the sentences, and execute them; omnipresent, there is no fleeing from him, nor escaping his righteous judgment; holy, just, and true, who will render to every man according to his works:
he putteth down one, and setteth up another;
he humbles or brings one low, such as are proud, haughty, and arrogant; and he exalts another, such as are lowly and humble: this he does in providence, he removes kings, and sets up kings; puts down the mighty from their seats, and exalts them of low degree, ( Daniel 2:21 ) ( Luke 1:52 ) ( 14:11 ) , he has many ways to mortify the proud, by inflicting diseases on their bodies, by stripping them of their honour and wealth, and by bringing them into disgrace among men: and this he does in grace; such as are stout hearted and far from righteousness, and will not submit to the righteousness of Christ, he brings them to it; and those whom he makes humble by his grace, he raises to a high estate, to be kings and priests, and to sit among princes, and to inherit a throne of glory.
The only exaltation that matters is that which comes from God. The opinions of people mean nothing
Think of Haman!
God’s Hand is on the throttle of what is often merely called “providence.” He is in control! To this degree, He knows the number of hairs on your head! When a single little sparrow falls! How the lily blooms!
He supervises the Fall of the year, a world-wide display of things being “put down!”
This same God, awesome and glorious, “setteth up” others!
God “makes taller” some people, in impact and influence of course. He “lifts” them higher!
As Joseph was “controller” in Egypt, so God is “Controller” over everything today. Here’s Genesis 41:44 as an example. “And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”
Here’s Hannah’s testimony about our great God. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory.” 1st Samuel 2:28
I am that beggar God lifted up from the dunghill! He did so when He saved my lost soul!
