“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
-Proverbs 18:10

•• We in New Testament times now know the full name. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ (or Christ Jesus the Lord, or other combinations of the three words) occurs more than 80 times in the New Testament.

The name above every name!
“God … gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of God the Father”
Philippians 29: 10-11

Acts 2:21, 36-38 “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” … [36] “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ” [37] When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”[38] Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

•• We experience salvation by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.
•• Water baptism is in the triune Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 16:23-24 “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

•• Answered prayers in Jesus’ Name, including prayers for healing.
• “Ask [the Father] in my name…and you will receive.”
Matthew 12:17-18a, 21 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: [18] “Here is my servant whom I have chosen … [21] In his name the nations will put their hope.”

Having known the name, it is now left to us to know where to run to In days of overwhelming uncertainty, there is an encouraging promise given by God to every believer. Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and is safe.”
The verse is short and simple, but the promise is profound and powerful.

“The name of the Lord as a strong Tower”
Every person eventually faces times of desperation and trouble. However, people flee to many different places looking for peace and protection. Some turn to the bottle as a source of comfort and joy. Proverbs 23:29 says that this simply brings added sorrow. Others turn to wealth and riches. While Proverbs 18:11 says that “the rich man’s wealth is his strong city,” Proverbs 11:28 says that “he that trusteth in his riches shall fall.” Still others hope fame and power will provide answers during difficult times. God’s response to this is found in I Peter 5:5-6, where he says, “God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” For the Christian, the place to run in times of trouble is straight to the name of the Lord!

There it is! God’s Name is to be hallowed, to be sanctified, to be consecrated, to be made (considered) holy, to be set apart (not just in our head but in our heart, in our lives of loving, Spirit filled/enabled obedience!). And so by focusing on God’s Great and Glorious Names is ever how we are to begin our prayers, our petitions, our supplications, our requests, our cries for assistance! And so we must know what God teaches about His Great Name. For this reason we must study in depth the Names of God, not just knowing the Names “superficially” (e.g., knowing a specific title such as Jehovah Jireh,(The Lord will provide) Jehovah Rapha, (God our healer) Jehovah Shalom,(God our Peace) Jehovah Ebenezer, (God our help in time of need) Jehovah Nisi, (God our banner) Jehovah Shamah (Ever present God)
knowing His Names intimately, “Biblically” knowing how and why God chose to reveal them and what impact His self revelation had on the saints to whom they were revealed and continues to have on our lives today is very important.

HIS PRESENCE AND HIS POWER

“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.”
Exodus 33:14-16

Moses was convinced that without God’s presence in his life it was useless for him to attempt anything. When he spoke face to face with the Lord, he stated boldly, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:15). He was saying, “Lord, if you’re not with us, we’re not going to make it. We won’t take a single step unless we are assured of your presence.”

Moses knew it was God’s presence among them that set them apart from all other nations. The same is true of God’s people today. The only thing that sets us apart from nonbelievers is God’s presence “with us,” leading us, guiding us, working his will in and through us. His presence drives out fear and confusion.

The secret of success, victory and unusual exploits that the anointed servants of God achieve in life, is in the fact that God’s presence is always with them.

  • There is nothing as magnificent or glorious as a child of God carrying the presence of God with them wherever they go.
  • The secret of success, victory and unusual exploits that the anointed servants of God achieve in life, is in the fact that God’s presence is always with them.
  • Do you want to overcome great problems? Do you want to fulfil your divine destiny? You need the power of His presence.
  • When the presence of God envelopes you, people will say yes to you even when they intended to say no. It’s like an aura you carry about with you.
  • Satan cannot give divine presence. It is more costly than gold. The people mourned when God’s presence left them. It is a calamity and a tragedy when a Christian does not carry the presence of God.
  • God’s manifest presence is the key to your undeniable breakthrough without which it can never be possible. It is impossible to operate in the supernatural without divine presence.
  • Having the presence of God with us is worth more than riches or fame or power. We can go anywhere when the presence of God is with us.
  • A sleep is dangerous when the presence of God is absent. In the presence of God, there is fullness of joy but out of His presence, there is frustration, multiple demons, discouragement sorrow, fear, sickness, sin, suicide, distress, etc.
  • The question I would like to ask us is this: Do we have the presence of God with us? Or have we lost His presence? More than anything else in your life, ensure that you have His presence with you always.
  • Psalm 51:11:
‘Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.”
This is a powerful prayer. We need to have the presence of the Lord in our lives; it is a wonderful experience. It is essential in our everyday life.
