“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”
1Corinthians 4:20 NKJV

Above chapter is the New King James Version (NKJV) and below is the New International version (NIV)

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.”
(NIV)

The early Christians were both energetic and effective.

The church of early Acts had no financial resources nor any great learned or noble men amongst them. They faced the imperial might of the Roman Empire, the sophistication of the Greek culture and the fanatical bigotry of Judaism and yet they did so much with so little. Today we have so much and do so little with so much.

When I think of great men of prayer, men who accomplished great things for God, I think of Elijah. Here is a man who called down fire from heaven, brought a widow’s son back to life, ran faster than a horse, traveled 40 days and 40 nights on the strength of one meal. When he came to the widow’s house he told her to feed him and when she did, here jar of flour and oil did not run dry until the famine was over. He personally and boldly stood up to the wicked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. This man didn’t even die. When it was his time to go, a chariot of fire came down and took him up to heaven in a whirlwind.
We know that Moses parted the Red Sea so that the millions of people of Israel could pass through and escape Pharaoh’s army. We know that Joshua parted the Jordan River so that the Israelite armies could cross over, together with the people, to conquer the Promised Land. But we are less familiar, I think, with a third example of parting water in the Bible. Did you know there was a third? It’s recorded in
2 Kings 2
This time the water didn’t part so that millions of people could escape a fierce army. This time the water didn’t part so that the Armies of Israel could possess the Promised Land. This time, Elijah parted the water of the Jordan River just so he and Elisha, just two men, could go across and meet with God. That amazes me. There wasn’t a crisis like before where the water had to parted or there would be terrible consequences. It was simply that the Man of God had to go to the other side of the river. Now that is a powerful life. If ever a man moved in and understood the power of God, Prophet Elijah is one perfect example.

The Church needs to look up and see that God is looking for a man!
May we be available to stand in the gap for perishing souls in our communities and cities, He says further that because He could not find
any one to stand in the gap for the land and the people, he had to
pour out His fury and wrath to destroy the land. church? should we
continue folding our arms and be having a good time possessing and
claiming things that are perishable while Satan is having a good time
plundering God’s people, stealing, killing and destroying? God gave a
commission concerning cities that the church needs to give heed to.
Jer. 29: 7

1857 American Revival
There had been a daily prayer meeting observed in Boston for several years.
The Result
It was estimated that during this revival, not less than 500,000 souls
were converted to Christ.
D. I. Moody was converted at the age of 19 years.
Every community in the UNited States was imparted by the revival. The
character of the Nation was totally changed, Jails, Prisons and
theatres were closed by the thousands and many were converted into new
church locations.
THE GREAT AWAKENING OF 1904
In 1904, a number of intercessors had begun to pray night and day for
a worldwide revival of pure and undefiled religion, one that would be
of pentecostal power and glory. This was initiated largely through
the instrumentality of Mrs. Jessie Penn-Lewis.
by 1902, some of these intercessors had received assurance that
revival was near. Many people spent the whole nights weeping and
crying to God to “Revive His work in the midst of the year”.
Evan Roberts says; “Lord Bend Me”
In September 1903, the Holy Spirit came upon him at the age of 25.
RESULT
Church buildings were filled, saloons empty, Police idle, the courts
have only a few trials to handle, debts were being paid, the entire
community was transformed for good almost in a day.

“The exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his
body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”—Ephesians 1:19-23.

To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ with all our heart is one of the simplest things imaginable. To trust Christ, to depend upon his power and faithfulness, is such a childlike act that one sees no extraordinary difficulty in it. Yet, to bring the human mind to exercise simple faith in Jesus is a work of the most astounding power. To bring down the pride of man, to subjugate his will and to captivate his passions, so that he shall cheerfully accept that which God presents to him in the person of Christ Jesus, is a labour worthy of a God. How strangely vile are they who cannot be brought to know their own mercies, except by an omnipotent power. The blessed Spirit of God is always the secret Author of faith; it is not of ourselves, it is the gift of God.

Know that the Lord is God alone—
He can create and he destroy.”

In the regeneration of every soul there is a destruction as well as a creation. The old man has to be destroyed—the stony heart has to be taken away out of our flesh; and though this is not done in all of us—nay, nor in any of us completely—yet the day shall come when sin shall be utterly destroyed, both root and branch, and all evil principles shall be torn up by the roots, and, like our sins, they shall cease to be, so that if they were searched for they could not be found.

The divine power is independent of time. Do not dream that the ages have changed, so that in this day God cannot do his mighty works. Beloved, if you can conceive of an age that is worse than another, so much the more is it a fit platform for the heavenly energy; the more difficulty, the more room for omnipotence to show itself; there is elbow room for the great God when there is some great thing in the way, and some great difficulty that he may overturn. When there is a mountain to be cast into the valley, then there is almighty work to be done; and our covenant God only needs to see work to do for his praying people, and he will shortly do it.

Unbelief has many mournful reasons, but faith sees none. In our classes there are women, there are men, there are children, upon whom the Lord may pour forth his Spirit, so that once again our sons and our daughters shall prophesy, and our young men shall see visions, and our old men shall dream dreams. We have but to wait upon the Most High, and he will honor us with success; for he can work in any place, in any time, among any people, and by any instruments. Let us come with confidence to his feet, and expect to see him lay bare his mighty arms.

This power, I must not forget to say, as a gathering up of the whole, is infinite. Power in the creature must have a limit for the creature itself is finite, but power in the Creator has neither measure nor bound. I am sure, beloved, we treat our God often as though he were like ourselves. We sit down after some one defeat or disappointment, and we say we will never try again—we suppose the work allotted to us to be impossible of performance. Is anything too hard for the Lord? Why limit ye the Holy One of Israel?

If ye believe in the littleness of God ye will ask but little, ye will have but little; but enlarge your desires, let your souls be stretched till they become wide as seven heavens, even then ye shall not hold the whole of the great God, but ye shall be fitted to receive more largely out of his fullness. Ask of him that he would give the heathen unto Christ for his inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for his possession; for the scepter of Jehovah shall go forth, and the monarchy of Christ shall be extended from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same.

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with might through his Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:14-21

There is an extraordinary power available to believers, a power that can accomplish far more than we ordinarily think or imagine. It comes by the Spirit. It accords with the riches of God’s glory. It is the very fullness of God, as unimaginable as that sounds.

And I believe that once we have begun to immerse ourselves in God’s Word and battle the unbelief of our hearts and pray and fast for his power, we may have to simply step out with very little power felt in advance and do what we know what we ought to do. And I believe that in this doing, little by little the old clogged channels are cleared and we begin to feel this unimaginable power God flow in and through us.
