“This Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”

• Daniel 6:3

King Darius realized there was an “excellent spirit” within Daniel. What was this excellent spirit? The Holy Spirit. Daniel interpreted dreams. He prayed with effectiveness. He understood visions. He moved in prophecy. He experienced the miraculous. In other words, he was a man who was filled with the Spirit. That’s what made him so successful all the days of his life. In 2 Chronicles 16:9, we read that the eyes of the Lord go to and fro throughout the whole earth, looking for a man in whom He might show Himself strong, whose heart is perfect toward Him. Our Father is still looking for men and women in whom He can show Himself strong – as He did with Daniel.”

“As for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm.”
Daniel 1:20

Remember that Colossians 2:3 states this about Christ,
“in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

The wisdom and excellence that Daniel possessed came straight from the source of all wisdom and knowledge, our Lord.

You are the workmanship of God and He created you to operate by His divine, first-class standard. When you were born again, God put His Kingdom on the inside of you which included the ability to operate in excellence. God wants you to live a life of excellence, which is attention to detail and superior performance. Excellence is not comparing yourself with what others do, but you doing the best that you can do.
Everyone recognizes excellence when they see it, but few have accepted it as a way of life because they see it as hard work. Although excellence costs, the benefits from operating in the Spirit of Excellence will far outweigh the sacrifice. When you decide to live a life of excellence, it will begin on the inside (unseen parts) of you through the Word and Spirit of God. When you walk in excellence, you will experience promotion, favor, increase, and respect in life.
Never shrink back and accept average, mediocre, or “just good enough.” After all, God does not operate in the second class and neither should you.

Our God is a good God and everything he does is good and perfect. He did not create the earth without form and void but the devil when he was banished to the earth, perverted God’s original creation and caused darkness to prevail over the whole earth. When the Spirit of God appeared in the scene, the perverted world was re-created, light shined and everything was excellently done. After the creation, he looked back and God himself testified that everything created was very good. Such is the Spirit of God. He is a creating spirit, everywhere he appears he sets order in place and makes all things new. When He came into your life, he re-created it and gave you a brand new and excellent life in Christ Jesus. No darkness can withstand his ability to change and turn things around. No prince of Persia can stop his ability to cause improvement in any situation where he is invited. He is dynamic in his capability and progressive in his ability, He makes things better and makes better things to become the best. That is the spirit of God and it is the spirit of excellence. That was the same spirit at work in the life of Daniel that he was described by the heathen king that he carries the spirit of the gods because he found out from experience that the kind of spirit that operated in Daniel is not terrestrial but Celestial.
The same spirit was at work in life of Joseph, everything that Potiphar committed into his hands turn out better than it was, he added value to everything to the point that his master decided to leave everything in his care. What about Jacob, Isaac and David, time will not permit me to talk about them but I cannot but let you know that the same excellent Spirit was at work in Jesus Christ, who went about doing good and doing it excellently. The good news is this; we have the same Spirit. We receive this at new birth when our spirit was regenerated.
That creative ability, that quickening spirit, that excellent spirit resides in every believer who has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit but it’s one thing to have it and it’s another thing to know you have it and know how to use the ability that you have to turn things around.
Ephesians 1:19 says ‘that we may know the exceeding greatness of his power towards us that believe, according to working of his mighty power which he wrought in Christ when raised him from the dead’
Friends, the power that resides in a believer is comparable to the same power of resurrection.
Isn’t this awesome?
Romans 8:11 says; ‘ The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells inside of us and quickens our mortal bodies‘.
Excellent Spirit is a driving spirit that drives you to want to achieve the best at all times, always seeking for the highest performance and probing for a better result. Excellent spirit is not perfection but always striving towards perfection. It is always increasing and never decreasing, always progressive and never regressive, always improving and increasing skills, always adding value and improving on the last result. Always abounding and always adding. The excellent spirit is a diligent spirit and not a lazy one, hardworking and result driven.
2 Peter 1:5-8 KJV. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

An excellent spirit is a fruitful one according to the above scripture, if you continue to abound and increase in knowledge and all the values that make you better, then fruitfulness is guaranteed and success is inevitable. If you keep adding diligence to what you believe, then you are set for the path of greatness. Practicing excellence without the excellent spirit is an intrinsic attitude that some possess and it works for them because of their hard work, diligence and excellent life style. This is natural excellence and it is limited and terrestrial compared to when you have this and at the same time operate with the spirit of excellence which only comes from God. Your influence and capabilities transcends the terrestrial realm and you attain excellence with ease as this is coming from your spirit devoid of struggle and hard labour.

Operating with an excellent spirit will impact every area of your life, it will show in your Love walk with God and man as you will always strive for the best, it will show in your dressing, your daily chores, your secular work, your service to God, your relationships, your marriage, your academics, your values and your overall character. People will notice and testify just as they did with Jesus that you do everything excellently well.
When you submit reports to your superior, they commend you, when you deliver service to your client, they will commend your excellent delivery and packaging, when you make a presentation, it will show, in short everything you do will always exhibit a touch of class and excellence. This is the life that God has called us into and we must exhibit his glory. We will by God’s grace touch all these areas this month and bring home the message of excellence and how it can impact our daily living.

This is my prayer for you. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent…” Philippians 1:9-10
I can assure you that your life is about to take a new turn and you will not remain the same again in Jesus name.
