Tension As Tribunal Sacks NNPP’s Abba Kabir As Kano Governor

The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 election.

The tribunal has ruled that Abba Kabir Yusuf is no longer the legitimate governor of Kano state, and has declared APC candidate Nasiru Gawuna as the winner.

Yusuf, who contested on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the poll in March.

As it stands now the political situation in Kano state is deeply concerning, with tensions running high between the ruling NNPP in one hand and the APC goons in the State who may want to take over Kano by all means.

Going by what had been APC’s antecident in the past eight years in the country as power grabbing and power-hungry lot who are only interested in furthering their own agenda, rather than improving the lives of the people, it will be a very volatile situation in the coming days in Kano.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that Kano is a volatile state, making it even more difficult to find a peaceful resolution.

Meanwhile the legal battle between Gawuna and Yusuf is not over yet as Yusuf could appeal the Tribunal’s decision.

The impact of the ruling on the people of Kano is still unclear – while some may celebrate, others may feel disenfranchised and angry.
