“And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Exodus 14:13-14

As God led the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery, He brought them to a tight spot. As the powerful army of Egypt approached from the rear, the Israelites saw the Red Sea in front of them and mountains to the sides. They saw no way out!
But God is not limited by seemingly impossible situations. He obviously knew what He was going to do. Moses may not have known exactly what God had in mind, but He believed what God said and faithfully passed on God’s encouraging message. When God is on our side, we do not need to fear or fret.

I am telling you today also to be still and see the salvation of God! Though today in Nigeria it seems that our enemies and oppressors have circled us from every side and there seems to be no way out, our enemies might be boasting and gloating, though even the hearts of most men and women of God are failing and some are telling you to find your way out of the country for fear of what is about to befall the country, I am telling you here and now to STAND STILL and see the salvation of the Lord! The oppressors you are seeing today, you shall see them no more! The killer fulani hersdmen, bokoharam and all the blood thirsty jihadists you are seeing today, you shall see them no more! I decree it in the mighty name of Jesus! VICTORY shall be for the People of God.

Even though I don’t know how He the Lord is going to do it, I am strongly convinced in my spirit that the same God WHO delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians at the red sea is still on the throne and He is our commander in chief, and He has never lost a battle!

You cannot overcome your fear unless you bring the problem to God in PRAYER.
You cannot stand still and hold your peace unless you learn to trust everything on the POWER OF GOD.
You cannot visualize the salvation of the Lord unless you immerse yourself in PRAISE AND WORSHIP.
These are the 3 important things; the secret so you can do what Moses has commanded to God’s people. Yes you need these three important weapons to overcome the impossible.
When the impossible situation struck the people of God, the Prophet of God reveal the specific things to do.
We Need Bold Faith and Confidence to stand firm in a world of ideologies.

Fear kept the children of Israel in bondage for several years. It kept them in slavery and they became complacent and satisfied with where they were, to the extent that when God sent Moses they didn’t want to follow him. This verse comes along during their journey when Moses had to encourage them because even though they had left physically, due to fear and the fact that they are scared physically, spiritually and emotionally, they were still captives of the Egyptians. Mentally they were still bond and limited by what they always knew; which is to be a slave to their masters the Egyptians.

“The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.”…

As you read the word of the Lord it is self-explanatory and I can definitely relate with the Egyptians because a change in any aspect of our lives seems scary, it’s painful, it seems impossible, etc, especially for them who have been bond for many many years.

They had a panic attack when they saw their slave masters pursuing them from the back and then in front of them was also another obstacle to the Red sea.
But I am telling you this morning, FEAR NOT!

Now Moses on the other hand; their leader, who has a relationship with God and understanding that the God he serves can do the impossible, encouraged them saying:
“Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.”

Our text exhibits the posture in which a man should be found while exercised with trial.

Our text is
A PICTURE OF THE BELIEVER WHEN HE IS REDUCED TO GREAT STRAITS. Then God’s command to him is, “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.”

In this brief sentence there are two things very conspicuous: first, what is to be done, “Stand still;” and secondly, what is to be seen, “See the salvation of the Lord.”

Faith hears the bidding of her faithful God, and is not willing to be shut up in the iron cage of despair; nay, she defies the old giant to put so much as a finger upon her. Lie down and die? that she never will, while her God bids her stand. See, beloved, the word stand. What does it mean? Keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the directing voice. This is a noble posture, but to despair, is mean and beggarly. Up, brother, play the man, be strong! While Jehovah lives there is no room for fear; a happy future awaits thee; yea, the present itself is bright with mercy, for the Lord’s love is still the same.
Ah,” saith Cowardice, “Retreat.” Cowardice whispered to the children of Israel that it was better to go back into Egypt. They are willing to go with ropes on their necks, and their hands bound behind them, and give themselves up to Pharaoh. To have their lives spared, they will relinquish their liberty. Hear them, they are basely talking about their graves while they are yet alive. So Cowardice, sometimes, when the Christian comes into a great strait, whispers, “Retreat to the worldling’s way of action; you cannot play the Christian’s part, it is too difficult. Evidently there are some men who can have faith in God, and can live in this world, but you cannot. If you must be in business, it is vain to attempt to be a Christian,” says Cowardice.

When we see that our only help is God, we are more likely to trust Him. Sometimes it is the little things – the things we think we can do in our own strength – that get us down, not the big things that we know only God can do.

Stand still: Moses told the people of Israel to stop. This is often the LORD’s direction to the believer in a time of crisis. Despair will cast you down, keeping you from standing. Fear will tell you to retreat. Impatience will tell you to do something now. Presumption will tell you to jump into the Red Sea before it is parted. Yet as God told Israel He often tells us to simply stand still and hold your peace as He reveals His plan.

The Bible has a lot to say about fear. If you spend any time in Scripture, you quickly notice the command to not fear. “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). “Do not fear” is widely considered the most common command in the Bible, found in both the Old and New Testaments.

Today listen carefully to what you are saying. Are your words positive or negative? The good news however, was that Moses was there. Moses was strong enough to overcome the negativity generated by Israel’s lack of faith. He told the children of Israel “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord”.
Moses told the people “stop murmuring, stop grumbling, stop complaining”. He said, “Be still so you can hear what God is telling you. Be still so you can see things from heaven’s perspective”. This is the first principle in finding a way out of a troubling situation. Be still and listen to God. God was telling them He had prepared a way for them; that they would be victorious, but they complained so loudly, they could not hear Him. Moses took a step of faith and moved towards the Red Sea. This was when the angel of God stood between the Egyptians and the Israelites. God gave Moses instructions on what to do next and made a way for the Israelites in the Red Sea.

Lets Pray
I speak this over your life as well as mine and we agree and claim it today. God open our eyes and give us spiritual eyes so that we do not focus on our current situation and be moved by what we see but press forward in our walk and relationship with you so you can help us focus on what you have ahead for us.
Open our spiritual eyes to see, open our spiritual ears to hear, and our mouth to speak your word over our situation and into each other’s situations.
Give us the grace to walk in boldness and not in fear, because you have not given us the spirit of fear but of love and of a sound mind!
Lord, we thank you for giving us freedom from fear, please help us to walk in this freedom!
