WE SHALL NOT LABOUR IN VAIN

IN THE DAYS OF HIS POWER SERIES.

TOPIC: OUR LABOUR SHALL NOT BE IN VAIN

SERMON BY-:
Rev. Innocent Chukwudi Peace-Udochukwu President Living Fountain Ministries Int’l LIFOM

“For God is not unjust to forget your work and LABOR of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
Hebrews 6:10

It is certain that many people labour in life without absolute result. Many people spend time and resources to invest for their future but when it is time for them to reap from their investment, there will be nothing to show for it. There is no man on earth that will like to labour without positive results.

Though sometimes it happens and when it does, it means there are enemies around your life that do not want you to succeed in destiny. When someone’s life is surrounded by enemies, he or she cannot achieve any positive result. In this end time, there are people around you that derive joy in destroying lives and property. These are a satanic agent that carries out demonic assignment on earth. I pray for you, their evil plans will never work in your life in Jesus name.

Does it seem like no matter how hard you work nothing ever changes? Are you worn out from the demands of daily life?
Believe me, I feel your pain. We’ve all been there and sometimes we just need a little inspiration to get through it.

No matter how weary or exhausted you feel right now, God doesn’t want you to remain there. He wants you to be energized and ready to take on the world. So, He gave us some much-needed inspiration for a time such as this. Here’s His promise for a worn-out, down-right tired heart.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
1Corinthians 15:58

What is labour? It is hard work. It is the opposite of laziness.

God’s grace doesn’t produce laziness, it produces hard workers:
Grace doesn’t produce laziness, it produces hard workers:

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”
1 Corinthians 15:10

We are not saved by our works, but true faith is always accompanied by works:

“Go to the ant, you sluggard!Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain,Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer,And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep—So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,And your need like an armed man.”
Proverbs 6:6–11

And Paul says in our verse, ‘in the Lord your labour is not in vain.’ I suggest that my experience of working life – and it can be the same in the ministry sometimes – is that we wonder what on earth we’re doing here. Our job doesn’t seem to achieve anything. Our studies at school or college seem to be going nowhere. Our experience of family or friends isn’t anything to write home about, however much effort we put into relationships. Has that been your experience? Perhaps it is right now.

And Paul says, ‘in the Lord your labour is not in vain.’ What we are doing sometimes does feel like it’s in vain. However hard we work, we aren’t achieving anything for the kingdom of God or our own personal fulfilment.
But you know what? Paul himself knew this experience.

So if you feel like your efforts are in vain, let this give you good heart. You are not alone. Your experience was familiar to the great apostle and the early church. Don’t feel condemned. God understands you, and his word has encouragement for you.

Like many of the promises within the Bible, this one is meant for us, the body of Christ, and not the whole world. God has so much that He wants to give us, but we must be a believer first in order to be partakers of His promises.

We are to be focused on Jesus and to continue focusing on Him even when life throws us a curveball. At times, it can seem to be a hard task, but if we remain steadfast we will see a real change happening. Instead of the daily chaos of life, that steadfast attitude will turn into a peace that stays with us.

Many people have called me stubborn over the years and I’m sure they didn’t mean it as a compliment. 😉 While being stubborn about silly things that don’t matter is not the right way to be, stubbornness in Godly things is always good. The Apostle Paul is calling on us to not be wishy-washy, but instead to stand firm and keep the faith when it really does matter. We know that God does not change, His ways are always the same. Likewise, we are to be, stubborn, single-minded, and unmovable in the ways of Christ.

“Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”
Ephesians 4:28

Did you know God will reward you for your good works? Whatever we do for the kingdom of God, our labor is not in vain. God has promised to reward us for our efforts. That reward may come in this life, and wouldn’t that be great? But if not in this life, our reward will definitely be waiting for us in the next.

When we labor for the Lord we lose nothing and gain everything. He has promised to equip us with what we need for the work He has given us. And He has promised to repay us a hundredfold for our sacrifice.
So, my dear friend and fellow laborer, my prayer for you today is that you will not lose heart when fatigue sets in and that God will energize you for the work ahead. May God bless you and give you rest! And may you see your efforts are not in vain in the Lord!

“You are not oiling the wheels of a machine that’s about to fall over a cliff. You are not restoring a great painting that’s shortly going to be thrown on the fire. You are not planting roses in a garden that’s about to be dug up for a building site. You are – strange though it may seem, almost as hard to believe as the resurrection itself – accomplishing something which will become, in due course, part of God’s new world.’
