2023 election: Mary-Odili denies working for Tinubu to influence judges to favor him
Few days after the former Lagos State Governor Raji Fashola denied the allegation of writing judgement for the Presidential election Petition Tribunal PEPT Judges a former Justice of the Supreme Court, Mary Peter-Odili, has also come out to deny influencing the Presidential Election Tribunal to favour President Bola Tinubu.
The former supreme court justice was reacting to a publication accusing her of “negotiating a pathway for President Bola Tinubu” and that “she meets regularly with the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court justices in that regard.
Condemning the allegation, the retired judge described the allegation as malicious and falsehood.
Reacting to the claim through her spokesperson Felix Enebeli, Odili described it as “false and malicious”. She added that her lawyers are on the issue and have demanded a retraction and public apology from Jackson Ude, a Twitter user who is allegedly behind the claim.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a publication circulating in the social media against the person of the retired Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili, wherein the author, one Jackson Ude, falsely and maliciously alleged inter alia, that the revered jurist is ‘currently negotiating a pathway for Bola Tinubu’ and that ‘she meets regularly with Appeal and Supreme courts’ in that regard.
“We deny every allegation contained in the publication and state that the publication is false, malicious, mischievous and a deliberate attempt at smearing the integrity and solid reputation of her lordship.
“We say nothing of the fact that the publication has the potential of inciting the public against her lordship on an issue of grave national importance.”
In his own reaction the founding president of the Congress For Igbo Agenda (CIA) and the National Coordinator of PETER OBI MANDATE GROUP (POMAG) Rev. Innocent Chukwudi Peace-Udochukwu said that in every rumour there must be some iota of truth because there’s no smoke without fire.
Continuing the media consultant said that “it’s good that Nigerians are getting all these feedbacks so they will know where to direct their anger In the case of the Tribunal giving erroneous judgement at the end of the day.
Though I am not saying that the allegations were true but there is nothing hidden under the sun when we the people are ready to dig out the truth”.
“Meanwhile all eyes are still on the judiciary to see if they will swim or sink, because to many Nigerians it’s nothing but now or never” the fiery clergy man opined.
