BREAKING: US COURT ORDERS CHICAGO UNIVERSITY TO RELEASE TINUBU’S RECORDS

Breaking: US Court Orders Chicago University To Release Tinubu’s Academic Records

The United States district court for the Northern district of Illinois has granted Atiku Abubakar’s request seeking the release of President Bola Tinubu’s records by Chicago State University.

Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar had asked a United States court to order the Chicago State University to release all records related to President Bola Tinubu’s studies at the university.

Tinubu had claimed to have a degree from the university in his presidential nomination forms. However, Atiku’s legal team alleged that there is no evidence that Tinubu obtained a degree from the university.

A memorandum signed by Jeffrey Gilbert, US magistrate judge, reads: “This matter is before the Court on Atiku Abubakar’s Application Pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1782 for an Order Directing Discovery from Chicago State University for Use in a Foreign Proceeding (“Application”) [ECF No. 1]. For the reasons discussed below, the Application is granted.”

In layman’s terms, the judge’s decision means that the court has agreed to grant Atiku’s request for the release of Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University. This is a significant development, as it could potentially shed light on Tinubu’s educational background. This could have implications for the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, as questions about Tinubu’s qualifications have been raised by some political observers.

The judge based his decision on three factors: first, that the person from whom discovery is sought (in this case, Chicago State University) resides in the district of the court; second, that the discovery is for use in a foreign proceeding; and third, that the application is made by a foreign or international tribunal or any interested person. In this case, all three factors were met, which led the judge to grant the application.

The judge also took into consideration the fact that Chicago State University is a public university, and as such, is subject to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). This means that the university is required to disclose certain records upon request, which in this case includes the academic records of President Bola Tinubu. All of these factors led the judge to grant the application for discovery.
