Summary: No force can withstand the power we believe in, weather it be governments or demonic powers, we are much powerful than they are. Christ is our victory.

“Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held; to subdue nations before him and loose the armor of kings, to open before him the double doors, so that the gates will not be shut: “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.”
Isaiah 45:1-3

Cyrus was nominated, in the foregoing chapter, to be God’s shepherd; more is said to him and more of him in this chapter, not only because he was to be instrumental in the release of the Jews out of their captivity, but because he was to be therein a type of the great Redeemer, and that release was to be typical of the great redemption from sin and death; for that was the salvation of which all the prophets witnessed. We have here, I. The great things which God would do for Cyrus, that he might be put into a capacity to release God’s people (v. 1-4). II. The proof God would hereby give of his eternal power and godhead, and his universal, incontestable, sovereignty.

And here, as in many other parts of this prophecy, there is much of Christ and of gospel grace.

Throughout Scripture we see God call us to faith in what would otherwise seem like foolishness to the world. I can imagine that the people of Jericho from their seeming safety from behind the wall were probably laughing at Israel as they marched around. Likewise, we think of our Joshua, our champion and deliverer, Jesus Christ. God says we appropriate the grace of salvation by putting our faith in the cross of Jesus Christ. The Bible states the obvious about this in 1 Corinthians 1. To the world, to put our faith in Jesus’s cross to save us is foolishness. The world back then and still today laughs at us for such faith. But the Bible encourages us that the cross is God’s power unto salvation.

If you study the book of Hebrews chapter 11, it lists accounts of men and women, who through faith subdued Kingdoms. They dominated their time in history, God himself testified concerning them and said; “the world was not worthy of them” (Hebrews 11:38). These ones functioned in the earth with heavenly laws, they saw things in the light of God’s Word, and stood by that Word which they had believed regardless of what was going on around them. Think about Moses, whom the Bible says by faith he, “refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; (Hebrews 11:24). The man thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt.

You have clothed me with strength for battle; You subdue my adversaries beneath me.
Psalm 18:39

How can anyone explain a sea dividing into two before the children of Jacob, how can anyone explain the high walls of Jericho falling down after the people took a walk around the city. One word explains it, “Faith”. The Lord Jesus talking about faith said, “….all things are possible to him that believeth…..” (Mark 9:23). In Luke 18:27 he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”

Think about David, the Bible says he won all the wars he ever fought in, one man subdued kingdoms by faith. It does not matter about the size of the opposition, they may come in numbers or in suits , but it is written “…….whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake” (Isaiah 54:15). Through faith we subdue kingdoms, governments and empires. “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him” (2 Chronicles 32:7). The reason we have the audacity to stand against kingdoms, is because we believe in a greater power than theirs. No force can withstand the power we believe in, weather it be governments or demonic powers, we are much powerful than they are. Christ is our victory.

Balaam prophesying about the nation of Israel said; ……the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them,………he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. (Numbers 23:21-22). Paul on his letter to the church in Rome wrote, “……..in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37). We win every time, everywhere, everyday. Victors for life, through Christ Jesus

The nations are exhorted to draw near to Jehovah. None besides is able to help; he is the Saviour, who can save without the assistance of any, but without whom none can save. If the heart is brought into the obedience of Christ, the knee will cheerfully obey his commands. To Christ men shall come from every nation for blessings; all that hate his cause shall be put to shame, and all believers shall rejoice in him as their Friend and Portion. All must come to him: may we now come to him as the Lord our Righteousness, walking according to his commandments.
