IN THE DAYS OF HIS POWER SERIES

TOPIC: STAYING IN THE FLOW OF A SOUND MIND

SERMON BY-:
Rev Innocent Chukwudi Peace-Udochukwu

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind
2 Timothy 1:7,

The verse is saying that God wants us to live with courage, love, and self-control.

Having a sound mind requires us to exercise self-discipline over our thoughts and actions.

Staying in the flow of a sound MIND requires daily, intentional effort on our part to keep our thoughts aligned with God’s truth.

And it’s not easy! Our minds can be like a battlefield, with competing thoughts and ideas vying for our attention.

That’s why the this topic is “Staying in the flow of a sound MIND” is very important for every serious minded Christian and also the admonition to guard our minds and hearts because out of it are the issues of life, showing that we must always make conciuos efforts to always stay in the flow not allowing the devil to mess up our mind with negative thoughts

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23

This verse is saying that our thoughts and emotions affect our actions and behavior. If we want to live a good life, we need to pay attention to our thoughts and feelings.

“Staying in the flow,” means living in a way that keeps our minds aligned with God’s truth and wisdom. In other words, it’s not enough to just reject negative thoughts; we have to replace them with positive, God-honoring ones.

There’s a big emphasis on being intentional and proactive about our thought life in these verses. And the enemy certainly tries to bombard our minds with negative and destructive thoughts.

But we have the power to take control of our thoughts and make them obedient to Christ.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5,

Staying In the Free Flow

In this verse, the apostle Paul is urging believers to reject any thoughts that go against God’s truth. Instead, we should focus on thoughts that are in line with what God says.

It’s so important to fill our minds with things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy, just like it says in Philippians 4:8. When we do that, it’s much easier to “Stay in the flow” and resist the enemy’s attacks on our thoughts.

Also “Staying in the flow” means we should fill our minds with the positives of Godly thoughts by remaining prayerful and most importantly reading the word of God consistently.

Prayer and Bible reading are essential to keeping our minds focused on the right things.

Through prayer, we can bring our thoughts and requests to God and allow him to transform our minds.

And by reading the Bible, we can fill our minds with the truth of God’s Word and allow it to guide our thoughts and actions.

While the Bible is a foundational resource for transforming our minds, there are many other great Christian books that can help us in this process as well. For example, books like “The Pursuit of God” by A.W. Tozer or “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis can provide powerful insights and practical guidance for how to keep our minds focused on God.

For instance “The Pursuit of God” is such a beautiful book! I love how Tozer describes the Christian life as a “pursuit” of God, a never-ending journey of growing closer to him.

It’s not about getting to a certain point or achieving perfection, but rather about constantly seeking God’s presence and will.

Guarding our minds is crucial. Proverbs 4:23 warns us to “guard our hearts” and “above all else” keep them pure and focused on God.

Neglecting prayer and Scripture reading can leave us vulnerable to the negative influences of the world around us. But on the other hand, when we prioritize these things, we can find the strength and guidance we need to guard our minds.

It is also very important to set aside specific time for prayers and bible reading.
Many Christians find that setting aside a specific time each day for prayer and Bible reading is the most effective way to make these practices a consistent part of their lives.

This can be done through practices like morning devotions or evening prayers.

We can’t share God’s love and truth with others unless we first nurture our own relationship with him. It’s like the saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

Believers are also encouraged to take control of their thoughts and make them submit to God’s truth.

The phrase “casting down imaginations” refers to actively rejecting any thoughts that are contrary to God’s word.

And while casting down imaginations we could also make sure we replace them with powerful imaginations that would take us to be who we should be because “if you can imagine it you can have it”

If we want to keep staying in the free flow of a sound mind we need to not only reject negative or ungodly thoughts, but also actively cultivate positive, faith-filled thoughts. In a sense, it’s like the Bible’s command to “take every thought captive” is paired with the popular saying, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

The concept of “casting down imaginations” can be applied to many areas of our lives, like our careers, relationships, or even our physical health.

For example, someone who wants to lose weight might need to “cast down” negative thoughts about their body and replace them with positive affirmations about their health and fitness goals.

For instance I transformed from an ordinary trader to become a celebrated TV broadcaster, author and blogger all because I first saw myself through imaginations doing all that.

It’s amazing to see how one could use the power of imagination to transform his/her career and achieve incredible success.

We should know that there must be doubts while we’re practicing “staying in the flow” it’s never a one off thing you have to keep on casting down the wrong imaginations emanating from the evil forces, you must keep on guarding your heart from all those forces on daily basis.

It’s not enough to just cast down imaginations once or twice – it’s an ongoing process of renewal and transformation.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2,
So It’s a continuous process of renewal and transformation that requires daily effort.

This transformation is not something we can achieve on our own, but through the power of the Holy Spirit. So, in a sense, it’s a spiritual journey as well as a practical one.

Imagination is a powerful tool for transformation. In other words, the thoughts we entertain in our minds can have a profound impact on our lives.

This is because our thoughts shape our beliefs and our beliefs shape our actions. So, if we want to transform our lives, we need to first transform our thoughts.

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in the transformation process. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth and that it guides us into all truth.

This means that the Holy Spirit can help us discern between right and wrong, and can lead us to the truth that will set us free.

This process of transformation is not a one-time event, but an ongoing journey. It requires us to continually renew our minds and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit on a daily basis.
It’s not something we can do once and then forget about – it requires daily effort and discipline.

It’s important to note that while this transformation is a daily process, it’s not something we have to do in our own strength. The Bible says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). So, while we do need to make an effort, we don’t have to rely on our own strength alone.

Staying in the “flow of a sound mind” means maintaining a healthy and positive thought life.

This can be achieved through practices like gratitude, meditation, and focusing on positive affirmations.

It’s true that this process of transformation can have a profound impact on every aspect of our lives. It can even affect the way we see ourselves and the world around us.

When we begin to think more positively, we may find that we have more energy, more patience, and more compassion for others. We may even start to see opportunities that we didn’t notice before.

Another benefit of staying in the flow of a sound mind is that it can lead to a greater sense of peace and contentment in our lives.

When we’re not constantly worrying or stressing about things, we can focus on what’s truly important.

Staying in the flow of a sound MIND can lead to greater success in our lives.
This success may not necessarily be measured by material or financial gain, but by the satisfaction and fulfillment we feel in our lives.

Because It’s possible to be very successful in terms of money or career, but still feel unhappy and unfulfilled.

So, it’s not about what we have or what we achieve, but about who we are and our relationship with God.

Staying in the flow of a sound mind means maintaining a positive and God-centered thought life.

This can lead to inner peace and contentment, which are more important than any outer success.

The transformation that comes from this process may not always be visible to others, but it will be felt within.

True success is not found in the things we have or the things we achieve. True success is found in our relationship with God and the peace that comes from knowing Him.

This peace cannot be shaken by the ups and downs of life, because it is rooted in something greater than anything this world can offer.

So, let us seek to stay in the flow of a sound mind, and find the success that matters most.

Staying in the flow of a sound mind can actually lead to greater success in material things, as it did for figures like Abraham in the Bible.

Stayin in the Free Flow

When we align our thoughts and actions with God’s will, we can achieve great things in this world, while still maintaining our inner peace and contentment. So, we can have both material success and spiritual success! There by having the best of the two worlds.
